The word for “cheers” in Italian is cin cin!
Cin cin is the fun, casual way to toast when clinking glasses with friends.
Examples
Cin cin! A un nuovo inizio.
Cheers! To a new beginning.
Cin cin, amici!
Cheers, friends!
Alla salute!
To your health! (a more formal alternative).
Cin cin is lighthearted and informal. Perfect for friends, parties, and casual gatherings.
For more formal occasions, Italians often say alla salute! – “to health!”
Just like in Germany, it’s tradition to make eye contact when you clink glasses!
Cin cin comes from the sound of glasses clinking together. It was borrowed into Italian from Chinese (qǐng qǐng), used as a polite toast, but today Italians use it simply as a cheerful “cheers!”
