The Word for “Pink” in Italian

Rosa is used to describe the colour pink. Unlike many other Italian adjectives, rosa never changes its form.

Examples

  • Mi piace il colore rosa.
    I like the colour pink.

  • Hai una maglietta rosa.
    You have a pink T-shirt.

  • Questa rosa è rosa!
    This rose is pink!

💡 Language Tip

Most Italian adjectives agree with the gender and number of the noun:

  • rosso/rossa/rossi/rosse → red

  • nero/nera/neri/nere → black

But rosa is invariable. It always stays the same, no matter the noun:

  • Le pareti sono rosa.
    The walls are pink.

  • Vorrei dei fiori rosa.
    I’d like some pink flowers.

  • Indosso un vestito rosa.
    I’m wearing a pink dress.

🌱 Rooted in Meaning

The Italian rosa comes from the Latin word for “rose.” Just like in many languages, the flower’s colour gave its name to the shade we call pink today.
