The word for “pink” in Italian is rosa.
Rosa is used to describe the colour pink. Unlike many other Italian adjectives, rosa never changes its form.
Examples
-
Mi piace il colore rosa.
I like the colour pink.
-
Hai una maglietta rosa.
You have a pink T-shirt.
-
Questa rosa è rosa!
This rose is pink!
Most Italian adjectives agree with the gender and number of the noun:
But rosa is invariable. It always stays the same, no matter the noun:
-
Le pareti sono rosa.
The walls are pink.
-
Vorrei dei fiori rosa.
I’d like some pink flowers.
-
Indosso un vestito rosa.
I’m wearing a pink dress.
The Italian rosa comes from the Latin word for “rose.” Just like in many languages, the flower’s colour gave its name to the shade we call pink today.
